ticking noise when started
Use Goodbye Spammer on trunkmonkey32.
Just returned from a year vacation from the sand pit, when i started to drive my truck again i started noticing it makes a ticking or tapping noise when started. It stops with in seconds, maybe itss been there the whole time and i just havn't noticed. It's an 08 solverado 4x4. any ideas. I have used synth. oil since i drove off the car lot i am the only owner and have babied this truck to a point.
Any ideas what the cause is

Is it still doing it? Sitting for a year will drain all the oil to the pan.

I used to hear the exact same sound in my 2007 Avalanche with the 5.3L. It would be there when first started for about the first 20-30 seconds and then it would disappear. I have heard that the sound is not all that unusual though for certain engines.

I have been having the same problem with my 2004 Silverado. I have been told that the ticking noise is an exhaust leak. It could be a collapsing lifter but it is most likely an exhaust leak at the manifold.

A exhaust leak at the manifold will not go away after a few seconds. Would be a lifter.
